Weird Food Combinations

Informational

Pizza with Ranch

Unlike most weeks Jess and I finally had some time to relax. Unfortunately, because we had some time to relax we may have over relaxed when it came to our normal duties (Such as grocery shopping). Our typical week has us visiting the grocery store 2 possibly 3 times a week. We do a relatively good job of buying ingredients that can be used for more than one recipe however, we just like to make multiple trips a week to ensure that our food stays fresh and we do a better job of sticking within our grocery budget.

However, with this week having nothing overly special going on we planned on devouring our delicious left-overs and clean out some of our snack stuff as well. Everything was going well until I came home towards the end of the week to find Jess sitting with a bowl of salsa and some pretzels…..

Pretzels with salsa

“Salsa…….with pretzels dear…..Really….?!?” I asked.

“Yup” she replies casually as if nothing is out of the ordinary.

“You know if we are that low on food I can totally run to the store today to pick up something up.” I exclaimed.

“Are you kidding me salsa and pretzels are an awesome combination!” She says.

Speechless I tell you speechless! And that’s what got me thinking about today’s post. What weird food combinations that you love that make most people cringe? I personally LOVE …. I repeat LOVE ranch dressing on my pizza. Is this healthy? HECK NO! But it’s delicious! I swear! Jess swears by salsa on her eggs in the morning too. I thought she was crazy until I tried it. Not too bad actually. Now she was swearing by the pretzels and salsa routine and when I tried it I have to admit it wasn’t actually too bad. This then reminded me that my dad loved catsup so much he would actually dip his potato chips in it…. I still haven’t given that one a try, but he says it’s deliciously sweet and crunchy. I’ll spare you the details on how he makes that into a sandwich some days….

So again I ask you… What are your favorite weird food combinations that might make others cringe?

My father used to make me fried eggs for breakfast. I went through this period where I apparently needed a lot of protein because I started putting peanut butter on everything. So I ended up making fried egg and peanut butter sandwiches on toast.

I like to make grilled cheese with tuna (tuna melt) and dip each bite in catsup. I also like to dip my french fries in mayo. That may be the worlds most fatning combo!

I think Ranch on pizza sounds terrific. I’m a big pizza fan. I’ll have to give it a try!

Bacon Ice Cream, Tomato Gelato and Lettuce Sorbet on a Shortbread “toast” cannot be beat but certainly raises eyebrows!

Ranch dressing goes on everything! :)
I like mustard on my scrambled eggs, Mayo on my salads and in my pinto beans occasionally.

If I’m at a loss as to what sort of condiment to use with a meal but want something as a dip, I usually fall back on honey mustard, or some sort of good mustard (including eggs – wow, glad I’m not alone with that!) ..and I’ll throw anything in a wrap with some good mustard and call it a meal! haha
I also like my toast, eggs, etc, really well done – maybe what some would consider burnt. Oh well. We all have our quirks, right?

I’m with SaltySeattle, Bacon Ice Cream, or Bacon Caramels covered in chocolate. I occassionally make the caramels to bring places, but am always torn between wanting people to venture out and try something new, and wanting to bring the leftovers home :)

I like to eat pretzels with a dish of grated beets mixed with a lot of horse radish and a bit of vinegar and sugar. It was my favorite after school treat. I also love raw carrots dipped in vinegar.

My other half really likes peanut butter and miracle whip sandwiches…which I have yet to work up the nerve to try. I love sriracha on my pizza…and my favorite pizza is jalapeno bacon.

I’ve always been pretty creative with food to the horror of friends and family. I love peanut butter in my chili. It gives it such a unique flavor. I like peanut butter and bacon sandwiches on toast. I love to crumble barbecue chips in any kind of ice cream that has chocolate in it. I also like to dip fries in my ice cream. I love sriracha on my eggs and on pizza. Heck, it’s pretty good on just about anything. I like pickles on saltines with a piece of cheese…oh, I could go on and on…now, I’m getting hungry!

I too love ranch with pizza! I also like waffles topped with vanilla pudding and chocolate chips, crushed red pepper on buttered/salted popcorn, pickles on grilled cheeses, Triscutts with a bread & butter pickle slice and melted swiss cheese, french fries dipped in mayo, and just the other day I actually put some sriracha on a garden salad!

Pizza and ranch dressing – hmmm – have to give that a try. The other things I’ve heard of before (well, except the peanut butter and eggs), but I love combining flavors. French fries and mayo – very french. Also eggs and tomatoes – very french. I love salsa and eggs, but even more, I love eggs and mayo and a sprinkle of salt. Whether in a wrap or at toasted egg sandwich, or just dipping the eggs in the mayo. Yeah – you have to try the eggs and mayo combo :)

I love anything with chocolate & chilli in it. For eg., Chocolate chilli soup, Roast chicken slathered in chocolate sauce (especially if the chicken marinade was spicy)…I love salsa too. But pretzels dipped in Nutella are even more Slurrpalicious!!!

I remember when I was a child how disgusted I was by my father who insisted that peanut butter and mustard was the bee’s knees on toast. But he has inspired me to try many an interesting combination – some of them wretched some of them delicious. My favorite right now is sriracha, cranberry juice, fresh lime, simple, and soda water. It makes a really yummy spicy soda.
